Why SOPA and PIPA must be stopped

I take a lot of pride in being part of PuffItUp, it took us two years to build our website before we opened the doors and made our first sale. Just about everything on our website is custom, we take all our own HD images, we designed every part of our website, and spend countless hours listening to customer feedback and making changes. At any given time I can name 50 other companies that have stolen our images or have blatantly copied our store design, we even had a few fake PuffItUp stores in the past. I can respect that companies want to protect their property rights, we do deserve some level of protection, however SOPA is the worst way of addressing this problem. Here's why.

Legal Bullying:

Even before PuffItUp was fully up and running, we found ourselves in a legal battle with one of the largest vaporizer retailers. Their claim was we were infringing on trademarks by photographing products that showed companies logos ( citing DMCA ). Silly right? Could you imagine what online shopping would look like if we could not use our own images. Although the legal argument against us was nonsense, it was enough to almost bankrupt us with legal fees. A much larger company donated their legal team to help us fight this other retailer. We won, however many other small businesses are not as lucky. SOPA expands on DMCA laws creating more grey areas such as the one described above, creating more lawsuits.

Guilty before proven innocent:

There are many programs created by the DMCA such as eBay's VeRO, which allows companies to take down sellers and have their accounts and funds frozen simply for being accused of Copyright or Trademark infringement. This happened to us once on eBay, our accounts were restricted and our funds were held for 60 days. SOPA expands these programs to the entire Internet. If a large seller abused SOPA and had our entire business shut down, we might be able to fight our case in court, however being shut down even for a few weeks means we would have to lay off our staff and possibly close down for good, all because a manufacture or one of our competitors accuses us of something, not because we were found guilty of doing something. Simply put, guilty before proven innocent.

PuffItUp sells 168 different branded products. With SOPA, any one of those trademarked brands could potentially abuse the system and have our name wiped off the Internet for months. We doubt that would ever happen, but why would we give anyone that option? SOPA is not in the best interest for the consumers or small businesses. I strongly believe the Internet should be as neutral as possible. SOPA/PIPA threaten that neutrality, and should be stopped.

Arizer Solo Stainless Steel, SS Bowl vs Ceramic Bowl New Version

We have had a lot of questions about the Arizer Solo Stainless Steel bowl over the last few days. I had a chance to talk with the manufacture over the weekend and I hope we can help separate fact from fiction.

The Issue as noted from online message boards is that the Ceramic Bowls are chipping. The solution is Arizer has replaced the Ceramic Bowl with a new Stainless Steel Bowl.

Well, that is not completely true. Here is what we found out.

The ceramic chipping only affected one production run of the Solos where the ceramic sis not adhere properly to a small number of the bowls.
The issue is strictly cosmetic and does not affect the product, the ceramic is below the herbs so no chips could be inhaled
The coating is Ceramic, it is safe and is the same material used in many food and medical devices. Ceramic is safe to ingest or eat.
BOTH the ceramic and Stainless Steel are currently in production

To summarize, the ceramic chipping issue with the Arizer Solo only affected a very small amount of the original production. Both Stainless Steel and Ceramic bowls are available and are current versions.

Our last delivery from Arizer is the most current version with the Ceramic Bowl. Every Solo we sell comes with a 2 year manufacture warranty.

New Fake Vapor Genies Vaporizers

We mentioned a few posts ago that Counterfeit Vaporizers are becoming more and more popular. A company based out of China that produces fake Sharpstone grinders now is producing Fake Vapor Genie Vaporizers as well. We tried to buy one of these fakes off of Amazon but they were quickly removed. We talked to one person who bought these "Genies" and noted that it was slightly smaller then the real Vapor Genie, and made of pressed wood. Another common Vapor Genie knock off known as the Vapor Buddy has been tested and proven to contain lead in the paint.

Be sure you buy from a seller you trust, and don't ever be afraid to email a manufacture to ask them about a specific seller. We all want to get the best prices we can find, but it is always safe to say if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

eBay and Amazon are fun places to shop, and some of the deals on vaporizers almost seem too good to be true. There is only one problem, they are too good to be true. Counterfeit and Grey Market vaporizers are a growing problem online and most vaporizer dealers have had enough.

-Counterfeit

Vapor Genie was one of the first to experience the counterfeit game. Knock offs from China flood eBay even though they have been tested and proven to contain lead. Iolite, Arizer, Silver Surfer, Hot Box, have also had similar issues with Fake products being sold as authentic.

-Grey Market

Grey market refers to sellers who buy products from unauthorized sources and resell them as authorized products. Grey Market vaporizers are sometimes authentic products, but unfortunately because the manufacture has no way of knowing for sure, the warranty is void.

Most vaporizer Manufactures and Authorized dealers have come to the conclusion that they will no longer do any repairs or accept any returns for their products if they were purchased from eBay or Amazon. As many of you know, PuffItUp is one of the first distributors of the Magic Flight Vaporizer. Throughout the years we have seen Magic Flight make a lot of great changes to their products. One part that always remained the same has been the batteries. Magic flight comes with a a pair of mAh NiMH Rechargeable AA Batteries ( Name Brand PowerEx )

For well over a year we have been looking for a good alternative battery for the MFLB. Simply put, we can't find them. Heres why;

- Size - AA batteries all look the same size but they tend to be very slightly bigger or smaller. Magic Flight is designed to fit the OEM batteries within .01 of an inch. The other brands we have tested either fit very loose or they were slightly too big to fit inside the Magic Flight

- Power - The OEM MFLB batteries usually range from 2500-2700 mHa. We often hear of other brands that have a higher mHa that give stronger vapor. This is true, there are other batteries that give stronger vapor, however, every brand we have tried with a higher mHa only lasts a few uses then they either weaken or stop working all together.

- Longevity - In more ways than one, PowerEx batteries are Slow Self Release. meaning they hold a charge much longer than other brands, so you don't have to worry if your batteries will stay charged while not in use. PowerEx batteries also last a lot longer than other brands. In fact, our OEM batteries have a 3 month warranty which is almost unheard of.

We strongly recommend that only OEM Magic Flight Batteries are used with your Vaporizer. You can find these batteries in our Store. These batteries are not cheap, we sell them at cost and make no profit from selling them. The reason we sell these at cost is because we want you to be as happy as possible with your vaporizer, and we know with the right accessories, you will be loving your time Magic Flight Vaporizer for a long(:

Thanks to everyone who emailed us and explained what the whole pineapple thing is all about.
